This is a systems/mechanics guide rather than a linear walkthrough — a fixed step-by-step route isn't the useful format for a boxing title.
Controls / Starting Systems
The player controls a boxer from a behind-the-back perspective, able to throw jabs, hooks, and uppercuts, and to block, dodge (left/right), or duck opponents' attacks. Punches must be aimed at openings where the opponent's gloves are not currently guarding. The player cannot punch while dodging or ducking, and cannot duck body blows specifically. Successful dodges/ducks open an immediate counter-punch opportunity. A power meter fills as the player lands punches and depletes when the player is hit; a fully charged meter unlocks a stronger knockout punch. A separate "Power-Up" status activates when the background flashes/turns red, temporarily increasing the player's punch speed and power until the player is knocked down. Matches have a three-minute time limit per bout; both boxers have visible stamina meters. A boxer loses via knockout (failing to rise within a ten count) or technical knockout (three knockdowns in a bout).
Modes / Progression Architecture (Circuits)
Championship Mode consists of four circuits: Minor Circuit, Major Circuit, World Circuit, and a hidden Special Circuit. The Special Circuit unlocks only if the player completes the Minor, Major, and World Circuits without ever losing a match. Each circuit requires defeating four opponents back-to-back, with only three continues available if the player is defeated during that circuit's run. Progress and completed circuits are saved via battery-backed memory, and completed circuits can be replayed.
Required Objectives / Major Bosses
Bald Bull serves as the Minor Circuit champion (the final opponent of that circuit) in this entry, a notable departure from other Punch-Out!! games where Bald Bull is typically ranked between the Major and World circuits. Mr. Sandman serves as the Major Circuit champion in this entry, also a departure from his usual world-champion or top-contender status in other series entries. Documented Major Circuit opponents include Bob Charlie (first match of the Major Circuit) and Dragon Chan (second match of the Major Circuit). The Special Circuit consists of four fighters exclusive to that circuit: Narcis Prince, Hoy Quarlow, Rick Bruiser, and Nick Bruiser.
Completion Path
The completion path is: clear the four-opponent Minor Circuit (culminating in Bald Bull) → clear the four-opponent Major Circuit (culminating in Mr. Sandman) → clear the four-opponent World Circuit → if all three circuits were cleared without a single loss, the Special Circuit unlocks, featuring Narcis Prince, Hoy Quarlow, Rick Bruiser, and Nick Bruiser as its four opponents. Because the Special Circuit is gated behind a no-loss requirement across all three standard circuits, it functions as the game's true 100%-completion challenge rather than a normally-accessible fourth circuit — Phase 1 coverage should flag it explicitly as a skill-gated bonus rather than default content.
Still confirming
- The full four-opponent roster for the Minor Circuit (beyond Bald Bull as its champion) and for the World Circuit was not fully itemized from the sources accessed this pass.
- Specific opponent tells/patterns (how to read and counter each boxer's signature attack) were not detailed here, consistent with Phase 1 scope avoiding unverified move-by-move mechanics.
- Whether any additional unlockables beyond the Special Circuit exist was not confirmed.
