Dungeon and Map Routes
Use this page when you are about to enter a dungeon, want to know what to track while exploring, or need to plan a return visit. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined sends you through past-timeline strongholds, caves, temples, and crater paths — areas you may pass through once and revisit later. The checklists and trackers below apply to any enclosed dungeon area you encounter. Named per-dungeon pages are added as they are documented.
Before-Entering Checklist
Run through this before stepping into any dungeon in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. Dungeons in the past timeline can be long without an interior save point — under-preparing extends the run significantly.
- Save your game at the save point closest to the dungeon entrance before going in
- Check your supplies — healing items for the full party, status recovery items, and revival items if you have them
- Check party equipment — make sure every member has their best available gear equipped
- Note the story context — know which chapter arc and which past-timeline island you are on, so you can connect what you find inside to the broader route
- Check for a boss at the end — if the walkthrough suggests a boss waits inside, review the Boss Guides page before entering
- Decide what you want to accomplish — full clear, story progress only, or a targeted return visit to a specific area
What to Track While Exploring
DQ7's dungeons reward methodical exploration. Note what you find and what you skip so you can plan a return visit if needed. Here are the questions to keep in mind as you move through any dungeon floor:
- Which floors have you cleared? — track the floor count as you descend or ascend so you know how far you have gone
- Are there chests you could not open? — note chests that required a key, a switch, or a path you could not reach; these are return-visit targets
- Are there locked doors or sealed passages? — mark their location relative to the entrance or a landmark so you can find them again
- Where is the save or healing point? — if one exists inside the dungeon, note which floor it is on
- Which direction is the boss room or exit? — knowing the general layout helps you decide when to retreat for supplies vs. push forward
- Does this area have a present-day counterpart? — some past-timeline dungeons connect to locations you can reach after restoring the island; keep this in mind when you miss something
Planning a Return Visit
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined uses a past and present timeline structure. When you restore an island, the present-day version of that area becomes accessible on the world map. This means:
- A dungeon you rushed through in the past timeline may have an accessible present-day equivalent that contains different content
- Items, passages, or areas you skipped in the past may or may not be available in the present — this depends on the specific location
- If you know you missed something, note the chapter arc and island name so you can return after restoring that island
- Use the Fragment Tracker to keep track of which islands have been restored and which are still locked
- Use the Completion Tracker to note areas you want to revisit before the end of the game
Whether past and present versions of a specific dungeon share the same layout is being documented for each location.
Notes to Keep for Each Dungeon
These are the most useful things to write down or track for any dungeon area you enter in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. Specific per-dungeon pages will carry this information as they are added — until then, use this as your own tracking template:
- Dungeon name and island arc — which chapter and island does this dungeon belong to?
- Entry point — where on the world map or town map did you enter from?
- Number of floors or areas — how many sections did you find?
- Save or healing point location — which floor, and how far from the entrance?
- Chests or items found — what did you pick up and on which floor?
- Chests or passages you could not reach — mark these for a return visit
- Boss room or exit direction — which floor and which path leads to the end?
- Present-day counterpart status — has this island been restored yet? Can you access the present version?
