The useful secrets, not every brick
The NES booklet and Nintendo’s 1987 Player’s Guide describe hidden mushrooms, coins, and castle structure. This page stays at that level. It is not a complete hidden-block catalog.
Power-ups in bricks
The NES instruction booklet states that mushrooms turned into bricks, or made invisible, reward you with a power boost: Magic Mushroom into Super Mario, then Fire Flower into Fire Mario. Invisible blocks are real. PixelQuest is not listing every invisible 1-Up coordinate on this page.
CONFIRMED — Super Mario Bros. NES instruction booklet1-Ups and coin rooms
Some bricks hide extra lives. Some pipes lead to bonus coin rooms. These are intended secrets, not glitches. If a guide claims a guaranteed 1-Up in a remake you are not playing, ignore it — this page is NES Super Mario Bros. only.
CONFIRMED — NES booklet + Official Nintendo Player’s Guide exist; full table not restated hereVines / beanstalks
Certain hidden blocks grow a vine into a bonus sky area. The Official Nintendo Player’s Guide uses this same idea for a World 4-2 Warp Zone access. A vine is a bonus path, not a required route.
CONFIRMED — Official Nintendo Player’s Guide (4-2 ivy / Warp Zone room)Castles: fake Bowser vs World 8
Each world ends in a castle. Worlds 1–7 use impostor fights; grabbing the axe on the bridge still clears the castle. The true Koopa King fight the booklet describes is the World 8 castle. PixelQuest does not publish HP, fireball counts, or a “best” Bowser pattern.
CONFIRMED structure — NES booklet (castle at end of 4th area of each world); Player’s Guide castle notesWhy this is not a complete secrets farm
A full brick list is low-maintenance only if it is version-locked and complete. This page covers the secrets players actually search (warps, 1-Ups exist, fake castles) and leaves the rest UNKNOWN rather than inventing a catalog.
