Super Mario Bros. · NES walkthrough
World 7
Hammer Brothers on the overworld, harder 2-2 / 2-3 repeats, and a three-height maze castle. Four stages. Previous and next stage links sit under each area.
World 7-1
Reach the flagpole past Hammer Brothers and Bullet Bills.
How to progress
- Hammer Brothers appear on tall block sets. Wait for them to drop, or run-jump the flats. Do not camp under hammers.
- A power-up sits in bricks above twin cannons.
- A pipe leads to a coin room (optional).
- Flagpole.
Hazards that matter
- Hammer Brothers
- Bullet Bills
- Koopa Paratroopas under ? blocks
Notes
- A hidden 1-Up near the coin-room pipe is documented as appearing only if you collected every coin in World 6-3 or warped into World 7-1.
World 7-2
Swim the 2-2 layout with more Bloopers.
How to progress
- Same job as 2-2. Fireballs work underwater if you have the Flower.
- Bloopers that swim off-screen can return from behind.
- Exit pipe, then flagpole.
Hazards that matter
- More Bloopers than 2-2
- Cheep-Cheeps
- drains
World 7-3
Cross the 2-3 bridges with added Troopas and Paratroopas.
How to progress
- Harder 2-3. Grab the ? power-up on a right-hand bridge if you can do it without getting launched by a Cheep-Cheep.
- Some Paratroopas never land. Small Mario can run under them; Super Mario can duck.
- Flagpole.
Hazards that matter
- Leaping Cheep-Cheeps
- Koopa Troopas on bridges
- Paratroopas that stay in the air
World 7-4
Hit three correct heights, then the axe. Wrong paths loop.
How to progress
- Maze castle. First zone correct order: bottom path, then middle, then top.
- Second zone: go above the hanging fire-bar, then along the middle of the long block sets, then back to the top.
- If you see the low alcove after that, you are through.
- Impostor throws hammers. Get inside the hammer arc or run under a jump, then axe.
Hazards that matter
- Looping maze
- dropping lifts over lava
- fire-bars
- hammer-throwing impostor
Notes
- StrategyWiki notes the maze can rarely loop even on the right path; slow down and repeat the height order.
- Vs. Super Mario Bros. uses a different maze order. This page is NES Super Mario Bros., not Vs.
