Super Mario Bros. 2 · walkthrough
World 2
Desert sand, Pokeys, and Triclyde. Digging and keys matter more than in World 1. Previous and next stage links sit under each area.
World 2-1
Cross the desert without sinking, then beat Birdo.
How to progress
- Quicksand pulls you down if you stand still. Keep hopping. Pokeys are segmented cacti — throw vegetables or walk past when there is room.
- Dig spots and jars hide items. Hold down on sand where the ground looks loose. PixelQuest is not listing every dig.
- Potion still makes Sub-space. Use it on solid ground, not in the pit.
- Birdo at the end: eggs, three hits, crystal, Mask Gate.
Hazards that matter
- Quicksand
- Pokeys
- Shyguys
- Birdo
Notes
- Toad’s fast pull helps if you need a vegetable before a Pokey closes the lane.
World 2-2
Work the pyramid rooms, grab the key if the door is locked, then reach Birdo.
How to progress
- Indoor pyramid: ladders, jars, and Mushroom Blocks. Move blocks to open a path rather than fighting every Shyguy.
- A key in a jar or side room opens a locked door. Phanto follows the key. Do not linger in doorways with it on-screen.
- Bombs open cracked walls. Wait until the bomb flashes, then throw. Early throws bounce off.
- Birdo, crystal, Mask Gate. If you still hold a key, it can substitute for an egg — do not count on having one.
Hazards that matter
- Phanto
- Mushroom Block puzzles
- bombs
- Birdo
World 2-3
Clear the desert approach, then throw Mushroom Blocks at Triclyde.
How to progress
- Outdoor desert into an indoor fight. Watch quicksand on the approach.
- Birdo may appear before the world boss. Handle eggs as usual, take the crystal if it drops, then continue to Triclyde.
- Triclyde is a three-headed snake. Mushroom Blocks in the room are the ammo. Throw them into the heads.
- Three successful hits end World 2. Do not stand in the fire stream.
Hazards that matter
- Quicksand
- fireballs
- Triclyde
Notes
- Exact block count to finish Triclyde is three hits on NES. Super Mario Advance extra heads are OUT OF SCOPE.
