Super Mario Bros. 2 · walkthrough
World 7
Two areas only. 7-2 is Wart’s castle — the last course in the NES game. Previous and next stage links sit under each area.
World 7-1
Survive the long sky/castle approach and beat Birdo.
How to progress
- Longest non-final area. Clouds, ladders, and Albatosses stacked. Rest on wide platforms; do not chain risky jumps when you are at one health.
- Bombs and Mushroom Blocks open inner rooms. Keys still mean Phanto.
- Red Birdo possible. Eggs only for throws.
- Crystal, Mask Gate. World 7-2 is next, not a world-map skip.
Hazards that matter
- Long gaps
- Albatosses
- Phanto
- Birdo
Notes
- There is no World 7-3. After 7-1 you are in Wart’s castle.
World 7-2
Clear Wart’s castle, including required keys and Birdo, then throw vegetables into Wart.
How to progress
- Longest course in the game. Conveyors, chains, Sparks, and split paths. Take doors in order; a locked door later needs a key from a Red Birdo room.
- Two Red Birdo fights exist. One can be skipped depending on path. The other is required for the key to Wart’s lair. Eggs, not fire.
- Mask Gate comes alive before Wart. Throw Mushroom Blocks at it until it opens.
- Wart: the NES booklet line is that he hates vegetables. Pull vegetables from the garden in the room and throw them into his mouth when it is open. Hits when the mouth is closed bounce off.
- After Wart, the Subcon ending plays. That is the NES USA ending — not a Lost Levels World 9.
Hazards that matter
- Sparks
- conveyors
- Red Birdo fire
- Mask Gate
- Wart
Notes
- Do not mix USA SMB2’s Wart with Lost Levels Bowser. Different games, different last rooms.
