Worlds 1–8, World 9, and A–D
This is Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels on NES – Nintendo Classics: original-style 8-bit, not Super Mario All-Stars and not Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It is not USA Super Mario Bros. 2. Worlds 1–8 are the numbered game. World 9 needs a no-warp 8-4. Worlds A–D use a version-split unlock — NSO presence is labeled, not guessed.
World 1
Looks like Super Mario Bros. It is not. Poison mushrooms and nastier jumps start immediately.
World 2
Harder overworld and water. Poison still looks friendly on 8-bit.
World 3
Reverse Warp Zone in 3-1 can send you back to 1-1. That is intended, not a glitch.
World 4
Underground and castle pressure increase. Warps here skip ahead and cost World 9.
World 5
High wind athletic stages. This is where Lost Levels stops feeling like a remix.
World 6
Late-game overworld and water. Still four stages, still no princess.
World 7
Almost the end of the numbered worlds. Maze thinking starts before 8-4.
World 8
The numbered game ends at 8-4. World 9 only if you did not warp. Letter worlds are a separate unlock.
World 9 — Fantasy World
Secret world after a no-warp 8-4. Mostly underwater. Original-style copies loop; All-Stars may continue to A.
World A
First letter world. Unlock is version-split. Not Deluxe.
World B
Second letter world. Same unlock caveats as A.
World C
Third letter world.
World D
Last letter world. D-4 is the end of A–D.
Version and scope notes
- Nintendo Classics listing is original-style 8-bit Lost Levels. Poison mushrooms are not guaranteed to be All-Stars blue.
- World 9: no-warp clear of Worlds 1–8. Loop vs continue after 9-4 is version-specific. NSO loop/continue is UNKNOWN if not independently verified.
- Worlds A–D: FDS title-screen eight-star A+Start vs All-Stars sequential vs Deluxe omitted. PixelQuest has not independently verified A+Start on the current NSO listing.
- USA Super Mario Bros. 2 mechanics never apply here.
